Wilborn to lead to judiciary committee

State Sen. Rick Wilborn (R-McPherson) will be chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee in 2017.

Wilborn, whose professional background is in insurance, said he doesn’t know why he’s been tabbed for the slot.

“I have no idea other than we serve at the pleasure of the president of the senate,” Wilborn said.

Wilborn said the judiciary committee meets at the same time as the Federal and State Affairs committee, and he won’t be able to serve on both committees.

“It’s not uncommon in both houses to change things up a little bit,” Wilborn said.

Besides Federal and State Affairs, Wilborn served on the Financial Institutions and Insurance, Utilities, and Commerce committees in 2016.
