Warriors step up game, but not enough

Staff writer

After last week’s football game ended at half for the Peabody-Burns Warriors, the team stepped up their game this week while facing the Wakefield Bombers on Friday.

With the Bombers leading most of the game with only one touchdown on the board, Bryant Young passed the ball 11 yards to Austin Reynolds, who gave the Warriors their first touchdown of the evening in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Reynolds ran for 16 yards to get the team their second touchdown, and a 12-8 lead.

However, the lead was short lived. Wakefield scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with one good two-point conversion, for a final score of 22-12.

Young completed 5 of 10 passes, and Jess Philpott led the Warriors in rushing with 105 yards on 22 carries.

Bailey Penner led tackles with 9.5. Austin Reynolds and Landon Rives both had 7.5 tackles, and Austin Purk had 7.

“We made a lot of mistakes that cost us to lose this football game,” coach David Pickens said. “But I don’t feel like we got beat as much as we beat ourselves tonight.”

The Warriors will face Canton-Galva in an away game Friday.
