Vivian Conyers
Vivian I. Conyers was born June 26, 1927, in Hillsboro, Kansas, as the only child of Pete and Katherine (Loewen) Klein.
She attended school in Canada, Kansas, and enjoyed playing on her uncle’s farm with her cousins. Her family would travel to Saskatchewan, Canada, in the summer to visit family and help with harvest. Being an only child, Vivian always looked forward to spending time with her extended family.
Music was always an important part of Vivian’s life. She loved going to church, and at 8 years old, she sang her first solo. She continued to sing in high school and received a superior rating multiple times when she attended music competitions. She graduated from Marion High School in 1945.
Vivian married Harold Conyers on Nov. 20, 1964. They raised three children, Wayne, Randy, and Melanie. She worked as a teller at Marion National Bank, and also did bookkeeping for Slusser Drilling Company.
Vivian was very active in church and was a part of the ladies trio, sang in choir, played in bell choir, was a member of United Methodist Women, and served as building fund treasurer. Vivian taught high school Sunday school class for many years. She made lifelong friends during that time and kept in touch with several kids that came through her class. She was also active in the community and participated in 20th Century Club, St. Luke Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary, and served on the library board
Vivian’s true joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent a lot of time playing in the park, hiking down to Sugar Mill, having tea parties, and singing to “Lion King” anytime she had kids in the car with her. She loved going to any activity one of her grandkids was involved in and rarely missed a thing. There were countless concerts, recitals, and games to attend. She loved every second of the chaos. She was well known in her pink windbreaker by all the kids at track meets.
As Harold’s health began to fail, family helped move Vivian to Marion Assisted Living. It was hard for Vivian to leave the home on 422 S. Lincoln where so many memories had been created. In 2013, Vivian moved to Wichita to be closer to her immediate family.
Vivian peacefully passed away with family by her side on Oct. 5, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her son, Randy.
Vivian is survived by her children Wayne and his wife Mary Ann Conyers, Melanie and husband David Northcutt, along with eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion. Inurnment was in Marion Cemetery.
