Hillsboro

It was a busy week for the Trojans with nine matches in seven days. Five were on Saturday at the Trojans invitational, where they placed third.

Hillsboro defeated Haven, lost to Halstead, defeated Chapman and Minneapolis, then lost to Rock Creek, 25-23, in both sets.

“There were many times we were in really big holes, but they never gave up and either came back and won or came back to challenge talented and athletic teams to the very end,” coach Sandy Arnold said. “They followed the game plan, listened to their coaches and teammates to find ways to score, and most importantly, never gave up on the game plan or each other.”

Hillsboro has one more night of regular season volleyball. The Trojans will play Marion and Lebo on Thursday in Marion.

“This group has grown tremendously since the beginning of the season. We have grown in our skills as well as our volleyball IQ.” Arnold said.

Centre

The Cougars finished the day 1-4 Saturday, opening up with a victory over Solomon before losing to Little River, Elyria Christian, Goessel, and Herington.

“We look forward to continuing our season with our last three matches of the regular season,” coach Emily Hutchison said. “These will help us to prepare for our push to regionals and sub-state.”

Centre will get the opportunity for revenge over Herington at a quad Thursday at Wakefield.

“We want to continue to get stronger as we look forward to playing teams in our classification,” Hutchison said. “We’re excited and looking forward to finishing strong and working to get better at certain fundamentals so that our chances of continuing in the postseason increase.”

Goessel

The Bluebirds faced the top five teams in final league standings in a round robin Saturday at Little River. Goessel defeated Solomon, Centre and Elyria Christian with minimal resistance, but the Bluebirds stumbled against Herington, losing 25-22, 25-18.

In the final game, Goessel stayed close with Little River but eventually fell 25-16, 25-22 to place third in the tournament.

The Bluebirds are 27-7 and await seedings for the 1A regional Oct 22.

Peabody-Burns

Peabody-Burns lost Saturday to Canton-Galva, Rural Vista, and Wakefield. Those were the last regular season games for the Warriors.

Marion

The Warriors will host Hillsboro and Lebo on Thursday at the Sports and Aquatic Center. This will be the last game of the regular season for Marion and Hillsboro.
