Town, harvest to be celebrated

Staff writer

Peabody’s fourth annual Fall Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2 will feature 29 vendors, wiffle ball and horseshoe tournaments, and four performing singers.

Ginger Whitney, who has managed the festival for all four years, said past winning designs for its annual scarecrow contest included Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, patriotic, and Peabody-Burns Warriors themes.

“People get really creative. It’s pretty amazing what they come up with,” she said.

Other features are a pancake breakfast by the Peabody Community Foundation, a scavenger hunt by Peabody-Burns Booster Club, pumpkin golfing from the Peabody-Burns High School sophomore class, and shows at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. by Council Grove magician and ventriloquist David May.

“I’m excited because it’s bigger this year,” Whitney said. “Last year we scaled down because of COVID. It’s a real community effort on this, so I’m hoping a lot of people will come out and enjoy the historic downtown.”
