A Hillsboro teen was arrested last week after allegedly stealing a gun and threatening the lives of three people with it.

At approximately 7:25 p.m. Nov. 23, Clayton Tate Lingenfelter, 18, Hillsboro, allegedly took a Savage .22 rifle, valued at $300, that belonged to Cassidy Johnson, an acquaintance, without permission, according to Hillsboro police chief Dan Kinning.

“They knew each other, and were hanging out,” Kinning said. “It sounds like Lingenfelter was messing around or playing with the gun and then decided to just walk out with it.”

Several other people were reportedly at Johnson’s residence in the 300 block of N. Cedar St. at the time, three of which allegedly told Lingenfelter not to take the gun, Kinning said.

However, Lingenfelter allegedly responded to the contention of Jesse Campbell, Kalleigh Saenz, and Tanner Jasper, all of Hillsboro, with an alarming threat.

“Lingenfelter made remarks that led them to believe he would shoot them and any law enforcement officer who tried to stop him,” Kinning said.

Officer Randal Brazil arrested Lingenfelter in the 300 block of N. Birch St. shortly thereafter without incident.

Lingenfelter faces charges of criminal threat and theft of a firearm.

Kinning said Lingenfelter also is a person of interest in another case that involved a sign that was stolen from a yard in the 100 block of Cedar St. on Nov. 23.

Lingenfelter already faces charges of possession of marijuana, aggravated assault with a BB gun that resembled and was presented as a .44 magnum, theft of property, and possession of stolen property from alleged incidents that occurred in June and July.

Marion County Attorney’s office said Lingenfelter is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 21 for previous charges.
