Squad car has run-in with coyote

A Peabody police department patrol car was disabled when it struck a coyote early Tuesday morning.

Police Chief Bruce Burke said the incident happened at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near 170th and Sunflower Rds.

The officer was not injured in the accident, but the car is disabled, Burke said. According to dispatch recordings, the car was towed away.

Burke said the officer was at that location “in the performance of his duties.”

“We routinely make trips to Marion, and that’s all I’m going to say,” Burke said.
