Slower is better with 2 lbs. of pot

Otherwise, speeding may get you a night in jail far from home

A Tennessee man speeding east on K-150 early Nov. 3 probably didn’t expect overnight accommodations at the jail, but that’s where he spent the night.

Robert D. Thomas, 30, Murphreesboro, Tennessee, was pulled over by deputy Joel Womochil. When Womochil approached Thomas’ vehicle, he noticed the smell of marijuana.

Womochil searched the car for marijuana and discovered nearly two pounds in several containers, sheriff Robert Craft said.

“He was passing through,” Craft said. “He had not sold any locally.”

Thomas was booked into jail on suspicion of distribution of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute drugs, speeding, and distribution of between 25 and 450 grams of marijuana.

His bond originally was set at $25,000 cash or surety. A judge agreed Thursday to reduce bond to $10,000.

Thomas’ family initially was going to come to Marion with cash but instead used a bondsman, Craft said.

Thomas is scheduled for his next appearance in court Nov. 12.
