Richard A. Deatrick, 83, Herington, died Saturday at Herington Municipal Hospital.

Born Oct. 8, 1933, to Kenneth I. and Rayda F. (Kanitz) Deatrick in Winfield.

A graduate of Winfield High School, he married Clarendene Koegeboehn on Aug. 20, 1961, in Lincolnville. She survives the home.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College, and a masters from Wichita State University.

He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1957, and was stationed in San Diego, Hawaii, Japan, and Vietnam.

He lived in the Hutchinson area for more than 40 years and was a member of the Hutchinson Municipal Band for 10 years.

He taught music for 34 years, and did wedding photography for more than 20 years.

Other survivors are his mother Rayda Higdon of Herington; daughters Stephanie Tucker of Hutchinson and Angela Sheck of Greenfield Center, New York; son Brent Deatrick of Townsend, Delaware; sister Karen Roberts of Harrisonville, Missouri; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

A memorial have been established with Paul and Opal Koegeboehn Scholarship Fund.
