ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
June 10 — Three juveniles were ticketed for violating curfew in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. No report was created about a rental property scam on Facebook because no one suffered a loss. A dog loose in the 500 block of S. Ash St. was picked up by its owner before police arrived. Drivers were warned for speeding in the 200 block of S. Main St. and the 900 block of S. Ash St. and for equipment violations in the 100 block of N. Ash St. and the 100 block of W. D St. A child playing with a phone was blamed for a disconnected 911 call in the 100 block of N. Washington St., and a pocket dial was blamed for a second disconnected call from Hillsboro Heights. A business owner’s safety concern was resolved.
June 11 — A traffic stop for speeding and having no license plate light resulted in seizure of drugs and alcohol and a recommendation to the county attorney that charges be filed. No problems were found in checking a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave.
June 12 — A non-injury accident on Main St. near Grand Ave. was investigated. Police helped a driver whose vehicle was overheating. A parking complaint in the 100 block of N. Main St. was resolved.
Thursday — No criminal case was filed after police investigated a resident’s report of a possible phone scam.
Friday — Police warned a resident about loud music in the 100 block of N. Washington St. and removed storm debris from a roadway. A driver was warned for an equipment violation in the 800 block of W. D St. An alarm at Great Plains Federal Credit Union proved to be false.
Saturday — Drugs were recovered in two separate traffic stops — one for speeding and running a stop sign in the 900 block of E. D St. and one for having riders in the back of a pickup truck in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. The cases were referred to the county attorney for possible charges.
Sunday — Dogs loose in the 800 block of W. A St. and at 3rd and Washington Sts. were picked up by their owners. Drivers were warned for failing to dim their headlights on US-56 at Orchard Dr. and for an equipment violation in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave.
MARION
June 11 — A possible break-in in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. remains under investigation. A resident complained about parking in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St.
June 12 — Three loose dogs near Main and Roosevelt Sts. were taken to a veterinary clinic with help from city workers. Police discussed a matter of trespassing at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post. A report of a possible burglary in progress in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. turned out to be a homeowner using a flashlight while repairing a fence.
Thursday — A driver was warned for defective equipment at US-56 and Cedar St., where police also talked to a semi driver who had a flat tire. No problems were found in checking on a person walking around the former HRK Discount Store building.
Friday — Drivers were warned for an unspecified moving violation in the 100 block of N. 4th St. and ticketed for speeding near Main and 4th Sts.
