ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

HILLSBORO

Aug. 23 — Police attempted to find a vehicle that ignored a sign at a school bus stop on Indigo Rd. A large rock caught and dragged by a trailer from property at 1st and Birch Sts. was removed from the street at Cedar and 1st..

Aug. 24 — An officer helped a business set up property security.

Aug. 25 — A motorist with problems with a brake light was helped. Police investigated a mental health concern at Hillsboro Health Care Clinic and reports of trespassing and of suspicious customers who left Bomgaars when an officer arrived.

Thursday — Police talked to a resident of the 400 block of W. B St. about several dogs running free. A driver was ticketed for speeding in the 900 block of E. D St. Another was warned for speeding in the 100 block of N. Adams St. Yet another was warned about using a cell phone while driving. A traffic complaint was determined to be unfounded.

Friday — Police investigated a report of several people trespassing and possessing marijuana; the case remains under investigation. A resident complained about paint sprayed on a vehicle in the 400 block of W. B St. Police stood by while a student was removed from school property. A motorist was warned for speeding in the 200 block of S. Ash St., and another was warned for speeding and illegally exhibiting speed at Elm and B Sts. Police responded to an accidentally activated alarm at Casey’s General Store and helped a resident with a rental issue.

Saturday — Kenneth Carlson, 68, Hillsboro, was found dead after a mower he was operating slipped off an embankment and pinned him beneath it in a drainage pond in Western Heights. Security cameras indicated he had been underwater for 50 minutes before emergency workers arrived and unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate him.

Sunday — A report of a person walking around yelling in the 200 block of S. Birch St. was determined to be unfounded.

MARION

Aug. 23 — A driver who left without paying for gasoline was located, returned, and paid. No report was made after an officer met with a resident about a potential scam. A driving complaint in the 1100 block of E. Main St. was determined to be unfounded.

Aug. 24 — Damage to a vehicle’s windows was investigated. No problem was found after a suspicious vehicle in the 1400 block of Denver St. was checked.

Aug. 25 — Parents of a juvenile driver were contacted after a resident complained.

Thursday — Two drivers were warned for speeding and one was warned for an equipment violation. A dog owner was cited for allowing a dog to run free in the 200 block of N. 4th St.

Friday — A dog was reported missing from the 100 block of S. Roosevelt St. A driver was cited for going 34 mph in a 20-mph zone.

Saturday — A driver was cited for going 79 mph in a 65-mph zone. Police discussed a child custody issue with a resident.

Sunday — A dog owner was contacted about a dog that was found running free. A parking citation was issued in the 1000 block of Weldon St.
