Peabody Legion’s golf tourney seeks to improve post home

Staff writer

A Memorial Day weekend tradition will return May 24 as Peabody American Legion will play host for its annual Sandgreen Masters Golf Tournament to raise money for improvements to the Legion building.

The four-man-scramble tournament will begin at noon May 24. Proceeds will go to the Peabody Legion building fund.

“We’re trying to do upgrades such as new flooring and remodeling the bathrooms,” organizer Amanda Carr said.

The tournament does not have a set fundraising goal, she said, but is intended to continue ongoing building improvements.

Entry fee is $100 per team. The fee covers scramble participation and a small goodie bag for golfers. A coinciding raffle will help with fundraising efforts.

Carr is still seeking donations of prizes or money to purchase them. She’d like to receive or buy popular items tied to Kansas sports teams.

“Gift cards are always good, too,” Carr said. “Anybody can reach out to help me if they’re interested.”

Raffle prizes typically generate a significant portion of funds.

“The better the raffle prizes and the more there are, that is what brings the money in,” Carr said.

Food and drinks will be available at the course. A tent will be serving hot dogs and beverages during the tournament.

The golf tournament will be open to as many teams that wish to participate.

“It’s kind of unlimited,” Carr said. “The more the merrier.”

People interested in donating prizes or money or in participating in the golf tournament can call Carr at (512) 647-9676.
