Peabody Giving Tuesday promises warmth, help

Peabody’s second annual Giving Tuesday and Winterfest will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Peabody-Burns High School.

A soup supper will kick off the evening. Donations will support local charities.

Four gift baskets will be awarded by drawings. The baskets contain more than $1,600 in merchandise and services donated by local businesses and individuals. There is no charge to enter the drawing.

“People can sign up for the drawing anytime from 5 to 7 p.m.,” Peabody Community Foundation board member Linda Martinez said. “We’ll draw the winners during Winterfest and winners must be present to win. No exceptions. There are over $1,100 in gift certificates in these prize baskets for things like massages and baked goods, and even a night at the Prescott House. People were so generous.”

Baskets include two “Pampered in Peabody” baskets for adults, a “Winning Warrior” basket for youth, and a “Kid’s Kornucopia” basket for youngsters, Martinez said.

Winterfest will feature high school winter sports teams, a dance contest, pep band, and other school groups.

The evening is jointly sponsored by the community foundation and the high school.

Peabody High School has held three Giving Tuesday activities this month as a warm-up to the Nov. 28 event. A “Be Neighborly” Tuesday was Nov. 7, donations for Peabody Food Pantry were gathered Nov. 14, and area care facilities were given activity items this week.

Most Peabody business have donated to Giving Tuesday.
