Osteopathic doctor joins St. Luke medical staff

Staff writer

Scott Akers, DO, began practicing in Marion on July 6. He is the newest addition to the medical staff at St. Luke Medical Clinic.

The 31-year-old physician grew up at Syracuse in western Kansas.

He did undergraduate studies in molecular science at Baker University in Baldwin City and obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biological Science.

As an osteopathic doctor, his focus is on primary care, with emphasis on the body as an integrated whole.

He practiced family medicine at Via Christi in Wichita and served as chief of staff at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson before coming to Marion.

“I like the support staff of the clinic and hospital,” he said. “It’s a small hospital, but it provides much more of a work-life balance.”

Akers and his wife, Vallin, have a 17-month-old son, August. They live in Marion.

“I like Marion,” he said. “The shops and stores are good.”
