These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Burglary

A cash register valued at $100 was stolen between 11:45 and 11:50 a.m. Feb. 25 by burglars who broke into a metal shop, storage building, and fireworks stand owned by county commissioner Randy Dallke in the 500 block of E. 9th St. in Peabody.

Dallke’s daughter, Roxanne, officially listed as a witness to the crime, surprised the burglars during the break-in and attempted to follow one of them, according to monitored transmissions. She identified two of them by name and was sitting in front of a suspect’s house when she called dispatchers. She told them her father, a former police officer, was patrolling the city, looking for another vehicle, which contrary to prior reports did not match the description of a vehicle used in a theft reported in Halstead.

Deputies Kaylen Miles and Steven Janzen responded and searched for suspect vehicles as well. Miles’s official report states that the cash register was recovered that day but does not explain where or how. To date, no suspects have been arrested.

Theft

A $120 camera owned by Kyle L. Nelson of McPherson was reported stolen Feb. 27 or 28 from a Marion Reservoir wildlife area near 220th and Limestone Rds.

Identity theft

Danny L. Williamson of rural Tampa reported losing 23,500 in airline miles as a victim of identity theft between 7 p.m. Feb. 26 and 9:24 a.m. Feb. 27.

HILLSBORO

Domestic battery, disorderly conduct

Alcohol use is suspected of contributing to a fight at 3:45 p.m. Feb. 28 in which Ian A. Weisbeck, 45, allegedly struck his brother in the face several times at a rental home they share in the 400 block of S. Main St.

Police initially responded at 3:56 p.m. to a complaint about Weisbeck “making students feel uncomfortable” at Tabor College’s fine arts building.

After a brief pursuit, he was captured, the fight at his residence was reported, and he was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and, although the charge did not show up on a jail roster, of disorderly conduct.

Weisbeck was released without bond a day after his arrest. The brother declined medical treatment. Appraisal records indicate that the rental home is owned by James E. and Marty L. Hoffner of Durham.

Theft, interference with law enforcement

A fugitive facing outstanding theft and forgery warrants led police on a several-block-long foot pursuit after being arrested shortly before noon Sunday for allegedly shoplifting from Dollar General, 605 Orchard Dr.

When officer Peyton Heidebrecht learned of the warrants against suspect Brian W. Hiebert, 26, Florence, he requested assistance from sheriff’s deputy Bruce Burke.

Before Burke arrived, Hiebert took off running. Heidebrecht pursued him past CarQuest and Elcon Services but lost him near outbuildings in the 400 block of N. Cedar St.   

Deputy Aaron Christner, chief Jessey Hiebert, and assistant chief Randy Brazil joined the search. Brazil reported receiving a tip that the suspect had gone to a trailer in a mobile home park on W. 3rd St. and was being watched by the tipster.

The suspect was taken into custody there but, according to monitored transmissions, told police he had a heart condition and was experiencing chest pains.

Hillsboro ambulance was summoned. Ambulance attendants checked him but did not take him to a hospital.

Brian Hiebert was booked into county jail on the outstanding warrants and on suspicion of new charges of theft and interfering with a law enforcement officer. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Allegedly shoplifted items reported as being recovered from him include a miniature torch, four lighters, two round metal containers, and four round plastic containers, together valued at $29.
