These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

HILLSBORO

Burglary and criminal damage

An estimated $4,500 in damage was done between 2 and 2:30 a.m. Sept. 7 by vandals who broke a window of an unoccupied residence in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave., entered the house, and spray-painted walls inside.

Damage to the building, owned by Sidney L. Balstad of Newton, was reported at 11 a.m. by a resident whose address was listed as the same as the building’s, even though the building was listed elsewhere as being vacant.

Juveniles are being sought for questioning in the case.

Theft

Two 30-case cases of beer — Busch Light and Bud Light, together valued at $47 — were spirited out a rear fire door of Dollar General, 605 Orchard Dr., at 9:08 p.m. Sept. 8.

The theft, which police say was recorded by surveillance video, was not reported until 6:35 a.m. Thursday by a 21-year-old store employee from Marion.

The case remains under investigation.

Marijuana possession

Three Tabor College football players were arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a 2011 Dodge owned and driven by one of them was stopped at 3:34 a.m. in the 400 block of E. D St. for having illegal fog lamps that cycled through colors other than amber and white.

Arrested were the driver, senior defensive back Kai “K.J.” Gray, 24, of Union, New Jersey, and passengers Khallil Mason, 22, a sophomore defensive back from Luling, Louisiana, and  Jarrod Favors, 22, a sophomore wide receiver from Riverside, California.

Each was released from Marion County Jail seven hours later on $2,000 surety bond.

Officer John Huebert reported smelling burning marijuana after stopping Gray’s Dodge on suspicion of having improper lights.

Huebert’s report states that he found 0.2 of a gram (0.007 of an ounce) of marijuana plus packaging, rolling papers, and a digital scale inside the Dodge.

None of three claimed ownership of the items, but all were within their grasp, which constitutes possession under state drug law, police stated in a release.

Two sheriff’s deputies were called the assist with the arrest. The Dodge was towed.
