Music therapist wins scholarship

Staff writer

Ariel Kraus, director of life enrichment and music therapist at Bethesda Home in Goessel, will receive a $350 scholarship to reimburse her for the cost of a test required for her master’s in music therapy from Texas Women’s University.

LeadingAge Kansas Foundation announced the scholarship Friday along with nine other scholarships throughout the state.

Kraus started volunteering at Bethesda in 2019 after her husband took a job at Goessel and the couple moved from southern Oklahoma.

Bethesda hired her part-time in 2020 and moved her to full-time duties in May.

Providing music for residents became important during COVID shut-ins, Kraus said.

“It has been challenging, to say the least. We have been more creative in bringing more engaging opportunities for our residents,” she said.
