Memorial poker tourney to end

Scott Weber of Peabody won the 10th annual — and final — Bob Phillips Texas Hold’em poker tournament Saturday at Peabody American Legion Hall.

A total of 24 friends and relatives, up from 17 last year, played in the tournament, which has raised money for scholarships given to Peabody-Burns High School students.

This year’s tournament raised $650, organizer Allie Morris said, but will be the final tournament in the series.

Morris, who has been organizing the event for 10 years, wants to have more time to spend with her first grandchild and has been unable to find anyone else to take over.

Others placing in this year’s tournament were Max Williams of Florence, second; Allie Morris of Peabody, third; and Dylan Delk of Hillsboro, fourth.

High hand of the evening was four 10s by Tim Ross of Marion.

For the third time, Rob Turner of Peabody won a pink T-shirt for being the first player eliminated. The T-shirt, inspired by Phillips, was signed by everyone at the tournament and presented to Bob’s son, Kurt, in Bob’s memory.
