Many races open as filing deadline nears

As Monday’s filing deadline for the Aug. 6 primary and Nov. 5 general election draws near, several races still have no candidates.
Deadline for filing is noon Monday. Deadline to change party affiliation for the election is 5 p.m. Monday. Deadline to register to vote is 5 p.m. July 15.
County offices
County attorney Joel Ensey, who has been tried to get county commissioners to raise his salary to $115,000 a year, has not filed for re-election. If he does not run, he could be elected by write-in votes, as he was in 2020, but would be under no obligation to accept.
In that case, the a temporary county attorney would be appointed
Two candidates have filed for sheriff — Peabody Police Chief Travis Wilson and incumbent Jeff Soyez.
As of Tuesday no one had yet filed for commissioner for District 2, now represented by independent David Mueller, or District 3, now representaed by Randy Dallke.
Ashley Herpich, appointed to the county clerk position in January after Tina Spencer was hired as county administrator, has filed for election as has treasurer Tina Groening, appointed in November after Susan Berg died.
Hannah Branson has filed for register of deeds. Incumbent Rebecca Wingfield has announced plans to retire.
City offices
Incumbent Rehea Huls and challengers David Pearson and Dawn Hacker have filed for Burns City Council.
Nobody has yet filed for Hillsboro Ward 1, but incumbent Jeff Jorgenson has announced he would.
Incumbent Byron McCarty has filed for Hillsboro Ward 2.
Nobody has filed for Ramona mayor or city council.
