Goessel girls win at Solomon

Individual athletes won several competitions, and as a team, Goessel’s girls ended up in first place overall at last week’s track and field meets.

Several athletes scored well at the Solomon track meet Friday,.

Delaney Duerksen won two events, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, she placed second in triple jump.

Athena Funk won the pole vault, came in second in the 100-meter dash, and second in the 300 hurdles.

Nivea Funk won the 100-meter dash, placed second in the 100 hurdles, and high jump.

Rosie Gaeddert claimed second in the 1600-meter run, and Bella O’Neill finished third in javelin.

At the Abilene Invitational on Friday, Eli Gaeddert set two Goessel school records in place since 1974.

In races packed with competitors from bigger schools, Gaeddert finished fifth in the 1600-meter run (4:23.85) and fifth in the 800-meter run (2:00.10).

Dwight M. Flaming, the record holder since 1974, remembers setting the school marks in the mile race and 880-yard run at the state track meet in Wichita. His record stood for 52 years.

The season is not over for Gaeddert, who will have several more weeks of meets to improve on his own personal best times this year and then spend next season honing his skills.

Aiden Impson led the Bluebird boys at the Solomon meet on Friday with a second place finish in the 3200-meter run. Jayden Barnett placed third place in long jump.

The Goessel track teams will be at home Tuesday in a meet sponsored by Canton-Galva.

Marion

Marion traveled to the Conrad Nightingale Invitational in Halstead on Friday and came away with seventh place for the girls’ team and 11th for the boys’ team out of fifteen schools.

Dylan Kraus won the 800 with a time of 2:30.07. He also placed second in the 400.

Madisyn Hulett placed third in shot put. Nevaeh Jones placed third in girls’ triple jump, and Isaac Wesner placed third in boys’ triple jump.

The Warriors will travel Friday to the Beloit Relays.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro also competed at the Conrad Nightingale Invitational. The girls placed 11th, while the boys placed 14th out of 15 schools.

Emily Gilkey won high jump. Daisy Klein placed second in javelin. Quinlyn Funk placed third in the 3200. And Aaron Hein placed third in the 200.

The Trojans next home meet is Friday.

Centre

Because of weather, Centre did not travel to a meet scheduled for Thursday in Council Grove. The Cougars will be at Herington May 7.
