Galen Penner

Services for Galen Wayne Penner, 76, who died Feb. 11 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, were Monday at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.

Interment was at Johannestal Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.

Born Oct. 11, 1949, in Hillsboro to Arnold H. and Selma Penner, he was baptized on Sept. 20, 1964 by Henry Goosen at Johannestal Mennonite Church, graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1967, and after attending Bethel College for one year entered alternative service at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City.

He also worked at the Salvation Army Boys’ Club and Modern Office Supply in Oklahoma City before returning in the spring of 1974 to take over milking at his family’s farm.

On April 28, 1979, he married Pamela Kay Vinduska on the Penner family farm.

After retiring, he supervised daily maintenance for his area’s rural water district. Upon the closing of Johannestal church, he joined Trinity Mennonite, where he remained until it closed and he became a member of First Mennonite.

His wife survives along with brother Curtis Penner of Buhler, and sister Joretta Martens of Haven. Sister Fern Nickerson and brother Clinton Penner preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established with Mennonite Central Committee.
