Frankie Turner

Services will be Friday for Ola Frances “Frankie” Turner, 90, of Marion, who passed away Saturday, May 8 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Frankie’s life began Feb. 16, 1931, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Robert and Dicey (Ames) Walsh.

Frankie was united in marriage to Robert V. Turner on July 29, 1951, in Marion.

She started working at 16 as a ticket taker at a movie theatre, and as a soda jerk. Frankie had many jobs throughout the years including making, packaging, and selling chili for Turner’s Chili House, the family business.

She also worked in sewing machine factories, and later worked for AMPI, from where she retired.

Frankie’s best job was being a mother to her three children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club. She was a wonderful painter, creating many treasured pieces of art.

She and Robert loved to roller skate and enjoyed their 55 years of marriage.

Her loving family includes her daughter Sandy Sloan of Wisconsin; son Bill Turner of Lincolnville; daughter-in-law Jalene Turner of Emporia; grandchildren Terry (and wife, Michelle) Turner of McPherson, Anjolene (and husband, Andrew) Boster of Wisconsin, Adam Turner of Topeka, Matt (and wife, Brooke) Day of Idaho, Suzanne Turner of Wichita, Teaira Turner of Wichita, Billy (and wife, Tiffany) Turner of Mulvane, and Diedra (and husband, Dominique) Hill of Wichita; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; son Anthony “A.J.”; and son-in-law Jim Sloan.

Her family will gather with friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Strassburg Baptist Church, where her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Frankie will be laid to rest in the Marion Cemetery following the service.
