Dirt work is finished and concrete footing is being installed for construction of new facilities south of Marion Stadium.

“We just broke ground this week and we are getting the footing taken care of on the east side,” superintendent Justin Wasmuth said Friday. Really what we’re hoping for is good weather.”

Anthony Weber, construction superintendent for the Law Co., which is overseeing construction, said August remained the target date to finish work.

Hett Construction will put down concrete for both footings and walking and patio areas.

Voters approved a $3.26 bond issue for the project in May. The project will include a 10,500- square-foot building.

The building will house new locker rooms, concessions, and bathrooms.

Water leaks caused problems with such areas beneath the stadium grandstand.

Planned are two pickle ball courts that would double as a summer weight training area and could be reserved for parties.

New lighting for the football stadium already has been installed.
