Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JUNE 2
12:01 a.m. — A resident of Parkside Homes assisted living, bleeding after falling and hitting her head, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
2:50 a.m. — At a deputy’s request, Marion ambulance attendants checked a pedestrian on 140th Rd. between Sunset and Timber Rds. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
12:59 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman in pain and unable to walk at a duplex on Victory Ln. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
2:22 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman who suffered a stroke was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
5:19 p.m. — What appeared to be the same 85-year-old patient taken to St. Luke earlier was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC Health, Newton.
10:17 p.m. — A 19-year-old woman with chest pains, rapid heartbeat, and atrial fibrillation in a golf cart near the Tabor College townhouses at C and Adams Sts. in Hillsboro was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:57 p.m. — A 76-year-old man short of breath despite being on oxygen at a home in the 500 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro.
JUNE 3
12:50 p.m. — A 75-year-old woman having trouble breathing at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:52 p.m. — A 45-year-old man with high blood pressure and attended to by a nurse at Jefferson and B Sts. on the Tabor College campus declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
5:24 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head, back, and heel at Parkside Homes nursing home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
7:47 p.m. — A 17-year-old boy was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis for unspecified testing.
THURSDAY
8:03 a.m. — Goessel firefighters were dispatched for a 70-year-old woman who fell at a farmhouse near Comanche Rd. and 27th Ave. in McPherson County.
5:05 p.m. — An uninjured 74-year-old woman who fell outside a residence in the 200 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
5:56 p.m. — An 89-year-old man who fell at Parkside Homes nursing home was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
11:40 p.m. — A 59-year-old needing neurological services was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita.
Friday
1:51 a.m. — A passed-out 25-year-old woman with post-surgical abdominal pain at a home in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance, filling in for Marion ambulance, took 30 minutes to arrive at the home.
11:01 p.m. — A 35-year-old woman who hurt her elbow and knee in a wreck was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 200 block of N. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro.
SATURDAY
1:58 a.m. — A 78-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
3:09 a.m. — A person involved in a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of W. Doyle St., Florence, declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
4:53 a.m. — The 35-year-old accident victim earlier taken to HCH was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Francis as soon as the ambulance returned from Wichita.
7:27 a.m. — A 79-year-old man having trouble breathing and drifting in and out of consciousness at a home in the 500 block of Main St. in Tampa was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor initially responded as well.
6 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman with severe back pain and vomiting after falling at a home in the 400 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance, which took 29 minutes to arrive at the home.
11:02 p.m. — A 36-year-old woman with chest pains at a farm near 190th and Mustang Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
SUNDAY
1:47 a.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a dislocated jaw was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health.
2:09 a.m. — Deputies called for Marion ambulance attendants to check on a 45-year-old man with back pain and unusual behavior at a home in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence but then canceled the call.
3:09 a.m. — A smoke alarm at the Sports and Aquatics Center in Marion was determined by Marion firefighters to have been a false alarm.
3:36 a.m. — A 74-year-old woman with chest, arm, and jaw pain at a Victory Ln. duplex in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
8:20 a.m. — Marion ambulance returned a patient from St. Luke to an undisclosed residence in Marion.
8:28 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell off a chair and hurt her shoulder at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:45 a.m. — At a physician’s request, a patient was taken to St. Luke from a home in the 100 block of N. Coble St. in Marion.
MONDAY
12:44 p.m. — A 66-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.
3:03 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman with a numb jaw and breathing problems at a home in the 200 block of N. Plum St. in Peabody was taken to St. Francis on an emergency basis by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro.
6:19 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman with a rapid heartbeat was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.
10:06 p.m. — A violent thunderstorm swept across Marion County.
Radar indicated rotation and the “hook” echo of a potential tornado between Durham and Tampa, but no tornado was spotted, nor was a tornado warning issued.
Power failed at Lehigh and near Goessel at 10:08 p.m.; at Ramona at 10:31 p.m.; at Lincolnville, Lost Springs, and Pilsen at 10:34 p.m.; and at Marion and Florence at 10:55 p.m. Power also was reported out in Peabody. Even dispatchers, who have a backup generator, were without power for a time.
Peak wind gusts estimated at 90 mph were reported at 10:26 p.m. near 290th and Remington Rds., at 10:29 p.m. at 340th and Timber Rds., and at 10:39 p.m. at 110th and Sunflower Rds. Winds from 60 to 80 mph were reported elsewhere.
Street flooding was reported at 10:35 p.m. at Marion and at 10:37 p.m. at Peabody.
Pea-size hail was reported at 10:23 p.m. at Lincolnville and at 10:28 p.m. at 140th and Nighthawk Rds. Occasional smaller hail, sometimes up to nickel-size, was reported elsewhere.
An AgriTrails fertilizer plant west of Tampa reportedly lost its roof in the storm.
Fallen tree limbs, some blocking rural roads, and downed road signs were reported in several areas along with downed power lines and near-zero visibility during downpours.
