Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
APRIL 7
4:50 a.m. — An uninjured 63-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
9:14 a.m. — A 70-year-old man weak and vomiting at a home in the 200 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:24 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman weak and unable to get up at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.
2:21 p.m. — A grass and tree fire rekindled from a day-old controlled burn near 230th and Eagle Rds. was battled for more than 6½ hours by firefighters from Hillsboro, Durham, Goessel, and Lehigh. County emergency managers also responded.
6:13 p.m. — An unresponsive 84-year-old man receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation at a farmhouse near 80th and Diamond Rd. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders and firefighters not battling the fire at 230th and Eagle Rds. also responded along with an ambulance supervisor.
APRIL 8
12:55 a.m. — A 25-year-old man too dizzy and shaky to stand at a home in the 300 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
2:04 p.m. — A report of fire in a tree line near Quail Creek and 170th Rds. was determined by Marion firefighters to be only a small smoldering pile within an already burned area.
8:14 p.m. — An 80-year-old man with chest pains was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.
THURSDAY
11:48 a.m. — Fire reported in a tree near 60th and Timber Rds. was not immediately found by Peabody firefighters. Instead, they located and allowed to progress a back burn for a controlled burn at 70th and Vista Rds.
1:06 p.m. — A 77-year-old man minimally conscious at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance
1:19 p.m. — A 55-year-old man who thought he might be suffering a stroke after consuming what he said were “several shots of whiskey” at an apartment in the 200 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was taken to NMC health in a backup ambulance based in Marion. With both full-time ambulance crews on calls, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by until 2:45 p.m. in Hillsboro in case of additional calls.
3:03 p.m. — Fire of unknown cause in a ditch on US-56/77 near 270th Rd. was largely extinguished by a landowner before Lincolnville firefighters arrived.
4:03 p.m. — A 73-year-old man not responding normally at a home in the 200 block of S. Date St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
4:55 p.m. — A 21-year-old man with numb arms and trouble breathing, possibly from a muscle spasm caused by inadequate hydration at the Tabor College soccer field was taken to HCH by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro.
6:41 p.m. — A 59-year-old woman who fell and hurt her back at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:23 p.m. — What was reported to be a small fire burning in a pasture near the 700 block of S. Coble St. in Marion was determined before Marion firefighters arrived to be a lamp on a post.
10:45 p.m. — A 74-year-old with altered mental status was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
FRIDAY
12:32 a.m. — A 32-year-old woman with a high fever and swollen face at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched.
1:16 a.m. — A 78-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.
1:57 a.m. — A 94-year-old woman who fell at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
2:41 p.m. — With Marion ambulance in Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion to help up an uninjured 66-year-old man who fell. He declined to be taken to a hospital. Police also were dispatched because a protective dog was reported to be in the house. It was the third call to the same address in four days.
3:56 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman who fell on concrete, cut her head, and hurt her shoulder at a home in the 300 block of S. Prospect Ave. in Lehigh was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
8:35 p.m. — An unresponsive woman in her 80s or 90s breathing abnormally at a home near 130th and Jade Rds. was taken to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor and Hillsboro first responders and firefighters were dispatched to help with CPR if needed. One firefighter volunteered to drive the ambulance so medics could concentrate on treating the patient.
9:19 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on another call, Marion and Tampa ambulances and Durham first responders were dispatched for a 69-year-old woman with anal bleeding at a home near 290th and Chisholm Trail Rds., but the call was canceled after dispatchers determined it was from a different Chisholm Trail Rd. in McPherson County.
SATURDAY
2:59 a.m. — A 96-year-old woman with trouble breathing at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
6:52 p.m. — A 61-year-old woman with an infection was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Medical Center, Andover.
7:54 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman with chest and stomach pain who fell and hit her head at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
9:22 p.m. — Immediately upon returning from Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance transferred a 96-year-old woman with pancreatitis from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.
SUNDAY
12:46 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman who fell and hurt her hip at a home near 110th and Meridian Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
9:22 p.m. — Marion ambulance was summoned to stand by near a domestic dispute being investigated by sheriff’s deputies in the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence. When the ambulance was allowed in, none of those involved wanted to be taken to a hospital.
MONDAY
9:40 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters determined that a smoke detector at Parkside Homes apartments was sounding a false alarm.
12:02 p.m. — A 32-year-old woman with abdominal pain at a home near 150th and Diamond Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders arrived within 12 minutes and evaluated her until the ambulance arrived four minutes later.
4:27 p.m. — At the request of law enforcement, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to 5th and Locust St. in Peabody for a woman with high blood pressure. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
