Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
MARCH 4
2:04 p.m. — An unattended death in the 600 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was verified by Marion ambulance attendants and a coroner. Peabody firefighters helped them get into the house.
8:16 p.m. — An 88-year-old man with dementia found by sheriff’s deputies in a house with no electricity on Lakeshore Dr. south of Lois Ln. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.
10:15 p.m. — At the request of a Ramona firefighter, Tampa firefighters sent a tanker to help Dickinson County firefighters battle a barn fire on K-4 six miles west of Hope. They remained at the fire a little more than an hour.

THURSDAY
10:24 a.m. — An 83-year-old man who suffered a seizure at a house in the 300 block of E. B St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:05 a.m. — Marion ambulance briefly was dispatched after a neighbor looking out a window saw a man collapse on a sidewalk in front of Carriage Manor apartments in Florence. The caller reported three minutes later that a family member had helped the man get up, and the ambulance would not be needed.
FRIDAY
7:09 a.m. — A possibly septic 59-year-old woman at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:29 a.m.
6:04 p.m. — An uninjured 62-year-old man who fell at a home in the 300 block of S. Main St. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and firefighters. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
9:27 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance attendants were told to stand by outside Peabody United Methodist Church while law enforcement officers investigated a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of N. Sycamore St. in Peabody, but the call was canceled moments before they arrived.
9:55 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with an eye problem was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:33 a.m.
SATURDAY
12:29 a.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College townhouses was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have sounded because of smoke from a burning candle.
8:04 a.m. — A 75-year-old woman coughing up blood after possibly suffering a stroke at a residence in the 200 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was taken by Marion ambulance to NMC Health. The woman apparently stopped breathing while in the ambulance on US-50 just west of the county line. Originally destined for Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, ambulance attendants stopped at 8:49 a.m. and asked for help from Hillsboro ambulance and a Newton paramedic unit before continuing on at 9:16 a.m. to NMC Health. Tampa ambulance was asked to stand by in case of additional calls while Marion ambulance continued to Newton and Hillsboro ambulance returned to Florence to pick up equipment. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 12:14 p.m., stopping first in Hillsboro to resupply.
1:13 p.m. — A carbon monoxide alarm sounding at a farmhouse on 140th Rd. between Kanza and Limestone Rds. was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have malfunctioned.
10:18 p.m. — A 56-year-old man with a rapid heartbeat was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:03 a.m.
SUNDAY
9:17 a.m. — A 45-year-old woman with kidney failure was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:58 a.m.
9:53 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman with slow heartbeat and respiration and cold-like symptoms was transferred by Marion ambulance from Parkside Homes, Hillsboro, to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:15 p.m.
10:11 a.m. — Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by until 11:35 a.m. at Nighthawk Rd. and US-56 in case of additional calls.
6:14 p.m. — Fire in a ditch near K-15 and 170th Rd. was brought under control within 20 minutes by Goessel firefighters, who stayed there for another half hour of cleanup.
8:14 p.m. — A person who overdosed at Oakwood Manor apartments was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:47 p.m.
MONDAY
3 a.m. — A confused man found sleeping in the back of a pickup that appeared to have run off Kanza Rd. south of 230th Rd. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
4:07 p.m. — A 6-year-old boy who fell and hit his head at Centre School was taken in critical condition to Wesley by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders provided initial care. Tampa ambulance also was dispatched but the call was canceled after Marion ambulance arrived. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:14 p.m.
11:07 p.m. — A 41-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2 a.m.
