Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 28

10:09 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman in pain, shaking, and answering questions inappropriately at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:43 p.m. — A 38-year-old woman with chest pain at a home in the 100 block of S. Washington St. in Burns was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. A Burns first responder evaluated her before the ambulance arrived.

9:58 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman needing abdominal surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:32 a.m.

JAN. 29

10:03 a.m. — A 63-year-old man having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 60th and Quail Creek Rd. was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The call originally was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance but was switched by ambulance attendants to Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:09 p.m.

11:56 a.m. — A 75-year-old man with pneumonia who fainted and fell in the 100 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody but initially was reported to be uninjured was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:05 p.m.

2:43 p.m. — A 66-year-old man with altered mental status at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance. The call originally was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance but was switched by ambulance attendants to Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:47 p.m.

7:51 p.m. — A 3-year-old girl in respiratory distress was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:36 p.m.

THURSDAY

12:36 p.m. — An unconscious 87-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Salem Home to HCH.

3:11 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at D&J Liquor in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

3:55 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman complaining of nausea and weakness at a home on Random Rd. at Marion County Lake declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance but instead went to St. Luke in a private vehicle. The ambulance followed the patient to the hospital.

6:40 p.m. — An odor initially thought to be natural gas prompted evacuation of those attending a basketball game at Peabody-Burns High School. Peabody firefighters determined that the odor was not from natural gas but probably was from sewer gas leaking from plumbing problems earlier in the day.

7:13 p.m. — An 88-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding was transferred by Marion ambulance to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:27 p.m.

FRIDAY

12:04 p.m. — A Butler County ambulance, Marion ambulance, an EagleMed helicopter, and Burns firefighters all responded to what was reported to be a serious injury in a camper explosion on the county line near 10th Rd. and Washington Ave. in Burns. EagleMed and the Butler County ambulance took responsibility for the patient.

7:36 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who passed out and hit her head on a table while attending a concert at Shari Flaming Center for the Arts at Tabor College was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

SATURDAY

7:59 a.m. — A reportedly uninjured 81-year-old woman who fell in a garage in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:31 a.m. — A Marion firefighter asked for fellow firefighters to check an odor of natural gas at a home in the 700 block of E. Main St. in Marion. Firefighters monitored the situation until an Atmos Energy crew arrived at 10:31 a.m.

10:42 a.m. — A fire alarm at Parkside Homes assisted living was determined by Hillsboro police and firefighters to be a false alarm.

4:28 p.m. — A 46-year-old man with chest pain was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:31 p.m.

SUNDAY

7:28 a.m. — An 82-year-old man experiencing dizziness at a home in the 500 block of Commercial St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:52 a.m. — A report of a gas odor in the 600 block of Barker St. in Florence was determined by Florence firefighters to be a false alarm.

3:14 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:51 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman needing a specialist’s evaluation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:13 p.m.

MONDAY

11:44 a.m. — A 68-year-old man with pain and numbness in his legs and having trouble breathing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from a residence in the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro.

11:47 a.m. — Tampa ambulance was dispatched to investigate a medical alarm activated in the 500 block of Columbus St. in Tampa, but an alarm company called back before the ambulance arrived and said it was a false alarm.

11:04 p.m. — A woman unable to get out of a recliner at a home in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was helped by Marion ambulance attendants and firefighters. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
