Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 8

9:41 a.m. — A 34-year-old woman needing surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:08 a.m.

6:10 p.m. — An 8-month-old girl who reportedly threw up blood during a coughing fit in the 300 block of W. D St. in Hillsboro was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but not taken by them to a hospital.

9:27 p.m. — A 65-year-old man with chest pains and vomiting in the 600 block of N. Poplar St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

OCT. 9

4:50 p.m. — A man reported by a caller a mile away to be unconscious — first at Oakwood Apartments and then at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro — declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

THURSDAY

7:06 a.m. — A 71-year-old woman with a swollen throat in the 800 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:07 p.m. — A 66-year-old woman who fell and hurt her hip and head at a farmhouse near 250th and Pawnee Rds. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Tampa ambulance initially was called but was told to stand down.

3:28 p.m. — A caller who could not remain at the Burns fire pit after brush he deposited ignited asked for Burns firefighters to monitor the burning.

5:22 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 8:28 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro.

5:23 p.m. — The county’s backup ambulance, based in Hillsboro, stood by until 8:22 p.m. at a football game in Peabody.

5:54 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 7:43 p.m. at a football game in Marion.

7:54 p.m. — A 55-year-old man who fell five times at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:56 p.m. — An unconscious, cold, and clammy diabetic 50-year-old woman at a farmhouse near 330th and Diamond Rds. was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. A Durham first responder helped.

FRIDAY

7:18 a.m. — A 65-year-old woman with chest pain and tingling at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

6:45 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 9:17 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro.

6:58 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 9:01 p.m. at a football game in Marion.

10:49 p.m. — A 55-year-old woman with a previously injured arm and involved in a car-deer accident at 300th Rd. and K-15 was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. Herington firefighters also responded.

SATURDAY

11:44 a.m. — Fire in a shop behind a residence in the 600 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was extinguished within 15 minutes by Peabody firefighters. Florence and Burns firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance also were dispatched but were told to stand down before they arrived.

1:39 p.m. — A rider seriously injured in a motorcycle accident at 190th and Goldenrod Rds. was taken by helicopter to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Hillsboro ambulance attendants provided initial care. Hillsboro firefighters established a landing zone for the helicopter. A second rider, a 60-year-old man less seriously injured, was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. The location originally was misreported as being on US-56.

2:51 p.m. — An initially unconscious 44-year-old man with a heart condition outside St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A Lincolnville first responder also answered the call.

4:55 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman with acute respiratory failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:08 p.m.

5:24 p.m. — An uninjured 74-year-old man who fell in a garage in the 300 block of E. 7th St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:31 p.m. — A man injured in a fight in the 600 block of Cemetery Ln. in Burns was checked by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:22 p.m. — An 81-year-old man who fell and hurt his arm at a home in the 900 block of S. Ash St. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the man.

SUNDAY

4:36 p.m. — A 98-year-old woman who fell and may have lost consciousness at a home in the 100 block of Elm St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

7:07 p.m. — After some confusion about the address, a 67-year-old man with chest pain and alcohol on his breath at a residence in the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:20 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance occupied, Marion ambulance was sent to Bethesda Home in Goessel for an 80-year-old woman not feeling well. She was taken to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:18 p.m. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

11:07 p.m. — A confused 87-year-old man who fell at a residence in the 300 block of Arbor Ct. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

11:24 a.m. — A 53-year-old woman with chest pains in the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

3:33 p.m. — On a physician’s orders, an 84-year-old man with an infection was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from a farmhouse near 230th and Alfalfa Rds.

5:38 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 7:53 p.m. at a football game in Goessel.

5:46 p.m. — A 71-year-old man with cardiac problems was transferred by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis from St. Luke to NMC Health. Tampa ambulance stood by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls while the ambulance was away. Marion ambulance returned to its station at 7:58 p.m.
