Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MAY 3

8:45 a.m. — An elderly woman having trouble breathing in the 200 block of S. Madison St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:30 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters responded to what turned out to be a false alarm accidentally activated by an electrician working at a farmhouse near 240th and Jade Rd.

5:03 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by helicopter to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

6:30 p.m. — A woman in her 60s who fell at a farmhouse near 290th and Yarrow Rds. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. First responders from Lincolnville helped until the ambulance arrived.

6:38 p.m. — An unconscious 48-year-old man having trouble breathing and receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation per dispatchers’ instructions was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from a farmhouse near 150th and Eagle Rds.

7:59 p.m. — A 28-year-old man experiencing chest pains at Marion County Jail declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

MAY 4

11:32 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 400 block of Locust St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

10:51 a.m. — A 72-year-old woman with complications from a previous surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Salem Homes, Hillsboro, to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.

6:35 p.m. — One of three people involved in a traffic accident near Main St. and Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. The two others declined to be taken to a hospital.

7:55 p.m. — A 53-year-old woman with head wounds was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospial, Wichita.

FRIDAY

5:42 p.m. — A man whose daughter thought he was slurring his words and having problems with blood sugar in the 700 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

9:13 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman having trouble breathing in the 300 block of N. C St. in Ramona was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. Marion ambulance, which also was dispatched, arrived six minutes after Tampa ambulance.

9:24 p.m. — With Marion ambulance en route to Ramona, a woman who twisted her hip after falling in the 100 block of E. Forest St. in Marion was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion police were called to help gain entry to the house after the victim was unable to unlock a door.

11:35 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance out of the county on the previous call, Marion ambulance transferred an HCH patient to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

SATURDAY

9:47 a.m. — A 60-year-old woman in the 400 block of Elm St. in Marion was pronounced dead by Marion ambulance attendants.

12:50 p.m. — Marion police and, at least initially, Marion ambulance were dispatched to a report that a 13-year-old “was body-slammed off the porch wall” at a rental home in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion. No further actions were reported.

3:37 p.m. — An 83-year-old man who fell in the 400 block of Brairwood Lane in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:13 p.m. — At her family’s request, a 92-year-old woman experiencing weakness and a fever was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Manor, Hillsboro, to HCH.

5:20 p.m. — A grass fire near Burns Cemetery was quickly determined by Burns firefighters to be a controlled burn that the landowner was adequately monitoring.

9:47 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman having trouble breathing at Parkside Homes was examined by medics from Hillsboro ambulance. Monitored transmissions do not indicate whether she was taken to a hospital.

SUNDAY

3:17 p.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to a false alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody.

MONDAY

12:52 a.m. — A 27-year-old man who cut his wrists on broken glass in the 800 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Peabody ambulance. Marion ambulance also was called but was told it was not needed.

12:33 p.m. — A 48-year-old woman vomiting and having what she suspected were gall bladder problems in the 200 block of W.6th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

2:35 p.m. — A 92-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at Lanning Pharmacy in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

4:48 p.m. — A medical emergency originally called in for Hillsboro ambulance was switched to a trip by private vehicle from Tabor College’s athletic field to HCH.
