Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MAY 4

12:27 p.m. — A 50-year-old woman with a rapid heartbeat was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

1:39 p.m. — Fire in a trailer dumping trash at the county transfer station in Marion was extinguished by Marion firefighters after the trailer was pulled out of the station and its contents dumped on the ground.

2:07 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters put out a ditch fire at K-15 and 230th Rd.

3:38 p.m. — A patient at Hutchinson Regional Hospital was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:42 p.m. — An 89-year-old man with difficulty breathing in the 700 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by either Marion ambulance or Peabody ambulance, both of which were dispatched to the call.

9:11 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters investigated a false alarm from a smoke detector that staff members at Parkside Homes reset.

MAY 5

3:04 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, was transferred by Marion ambulance to Newton Medical Center.

10:27 p.m. — A 55-year-old woman with difficulty breathing was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from a residence near 150th and Limestone Rds.

THURSDAY

12:11 a.m. — A 78-year-old female stroke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

3:04 p.m. — A sick 78-year-old man complaining of weakness was taken by Peabody ambulance to Newton Med from the 400 block of N. Sycamore St. in Peabody.

6:58 p.m. — Florence and Peabody ambulances were alerted after a false alarm from a medical alerting service. The automated alarm indicated unspecified health problems at a residence near 110th and Sunflower Rds. However, a Florence firefighter who had been monitoring ambulance transmissions noted that no one would have been at home to activate the alarm. The firefighter and the residents all were attending a program in Marion at the time.

FRIDAY

2:56 a.m. — A 72-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

8:06 a.m. — Another HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:35 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance busy, Marion ambulance initially was dispatched to a medical alarm in the 200 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro. However, a first responder in Hillsboro canceled the call after determining that the alarm had been activated accidentally and the resident had been unable to hear when an alarm company attempted to verify that she needed no assistance.

11:53 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was assigned to transfer a sepsis patient from HCH to Hutch Regional, but the patient’s condition deteriorated, and the transfer was canceled.

1:02 p.m. — Another automated report of smoke and fire at Parkside Homes proved a false alarm, and Hillsboro firefighters were told to disregard the call.

4:46 p.m. — A woman who fell and hit her head at a residence on 170th Rd. between K-15 and Chisholm Trail Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:32 p.m. — A hay meadow fire at Sunset and 140th Rds. was extinguished by Florence and Marion firefighters

5:38 p.m. — An unconscious woman in the 400 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance, which responded along with Peabody ambulance.

6:53 p.m. — A man who fell several times after drinking an unknown liquid in the 500 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance or Hillsboro ambulance, both of which were sent to his residence.

7:19 p.m. — Tampa ambulance was asked to provide mutual aid to Dickinson County for a multiple-vehicle accident originally reported to be on 300th Ave. just west of US-56/77, midway between Herington and Lost Springs. Not finding an accident there, the ambulance continued north to 340th and Sunflower Rds., where it picked up medics and a patient after a medical service helicopter had to make an emergency landing west of Sunflower Rd. and took them to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

SATURDAY

1:51 a.m. — Two people trapped in vehicle that rolled onto its side in a one-vehicle accident at US-56/77 and 340th Rd. were extricated by firefighters from Lincolnville and Lost Springs and rescue squad members from Marion and taken to Herington Hospital by Tampa and Marion ambulances.

12:59 p.m. — A 48-year-old woman with rectal bleeding was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence.

4:37 p.m. — A female Salem Homes resident with abdominal pains was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:17 p.m. — A 96-year-old man at Parkside Homes was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:10 p.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to a report of a barn and an uninhabited residence on fire at 120th and Nighthawk Rds., but the report may have been a false alarm. Firefighters did not remain on the scene for more than a few minutes. No further information was recorded.

SUNDAY

12:43 a.m. — Peabody ambulance was dispatched to a report of a woman who fell in the 400 block of N. Spruce St. in Peabody. Further information about the call was not recorded.

8:17 a.m. — A man who disappeared from a wedding reception the night before at Barkman Farm on US-56 between Limestone and Mustang Rds. was discovered dead by friends in a nearby corn field. Sheriff’s deputies, a coroner, and Hillsboro ambulance and firefighters all responded to the scene. The body was taken to Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.

3:37 p.m. — Marion ambulance transported a patient to St. Luke. Additional information about the call was not recorded.

11:20 p.m. — A possible COVID-19 patient with difficulty breathing was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. Details of the call were not recorded because of technical problems.

MONDAY

12:55 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Rock Regional Hospital, Derby.

6:50 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to Marion Dry Cleaning and Laundry. Additional information about the call was not recorded.

9:55 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters responded to a call, but additional information about the call was not recorded because of technical problems.
