Elizabeth Crawford

Elizabeth Ellen (Childs) Crawford, 97, of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Chase County Care and Rehabilitation in Cottonwood Falls.

The daughter of Chauncey and Pearl (Green) Childs, Elizabeth was born March 7, 1919, in Elmdale, Kansas. She graduated from Elmdale High School in 1937 and attended two years of training at Wichita Business School.

Elizabeth and Carson Crawford were married June 25, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2009.

They farmed in Marion County west of Florence until their retirement in 2000 when they moved to Cottonwood Falls. She was a homemaker and attended Elmdale United Methodist Church. She was state treasurer for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Elizabeth is survived by two sons, Michael C. Crawford and wife, Arlene, of Topeka, and Mark L. Crawford and wife, Marianna, of Moundridge; a daughter, Deborah K.E. Crawford of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a sister, Helen Dull of Cottonwood Falls; a sister-in-law, Ruth Childs of Cottonwood Falls; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Philip S. Crawford; a brother, Wayne Childs; and a sister, Leola Evans.

A celebration of life service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Burial followed in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
