Election for county commission

Two incumbents and four challengers are vying for two seats on Marion County Commission in the only contested local races in Tuesday’s Republican primary.

No Democrats have filed, but one independent, Tom Britain in the 3rd District, will appear on the general election ballot in November.

During in-depth interviews with each primary candidate, news editor David Colburn asked about county issues and candidate credentials. All except Amy Soyez, who had a conflict, were interviewed in person. She answered by email.

  • Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burns and Lincolnville community centers, Eastmoor Church in Marion, Florence City Building, Goessel Mennonite Church, Hillsboro Elementary, Tampa Senior Center and Peabody-Burns High School.
  • Early voting until 7 tonight, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Monday, and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Marion County Courthouse.
