Eleanor Silhan
A memorial Mass of Christian burial for Eleanor Joan Richmond Silhan, 94, who died April 9, 2026, at her home in Salina, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2026, at
St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina.
Rosary will be offered at 10 a.m. before Mass. Burial will be in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery, Pilsen.
Born Dec. 29, 1931, in Hillsboro, the middle of five children of John Francis “Frank” Richmond and Nellie
Irene (Mott) Richmond, she grew up in Marion County.
Also known as “Peggy,” she moved to Salina in 1949 to attend Brown Mackie College and worked several years as a secretary at Hawthorne Elementary School.
She retired from the Salina / Saline County Health Department in 1990 and later volunteered with Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank, the Volunteer Connection, and Catholic Charities.
She married Florian Paul Silhan on June 9, 1952. They raised three children — Catherine Silhan, Janet Deneault and David Silhan — and celebrated 59 years of marriage
before his death in 2012.
Also preceding her in death were daughter Janet Deneault and siblings Virginia (and husband Richard) Gettinger and Regina (and husband Ed) Prothman.
Survivors include daughter Catherine Silhan of Salina; son David Silhan (and wife Barbara) of Wichita; son-in-law Ronald Deneault (and wife Debbie) of Salina; brother Richard Richmond (and wife Judy) of
Sun City Center, Florida; and, sister Loretta Snelling (and husband Dale) of Cedar Point.
She also has three grandsons, Kevin Deneault (and wife Tori) of Olathe; Nicholas Deneault (and Sarah Prebola) of Berkley, Michigan; and Alan Deneault of Park City, along with two great-grandchildren, Oliver Deneault and Genevieve
Deneault.
Memorials to Catholic Charities or Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank are suggested.
