A full slate of people have registered to take the annual 60-mile walk Thursday through Sunday from Wichita to Pilsen to honor the late Army chaplain Emil Kapaun.

He has been designated a Servant of God by the Roman Catholic Church and is on the path to sainthood.

The walk will begin at the Church of the Resurrection in northeast Wichita and will end with a Father Kapaun Day Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. John Nepomucene Church, Holy Family Parish.

The first day will cover 22 miles, with the following days covering 13, 16, and 8 miles.

The walk will include daily Mass and time for confessions. Every two to three miles, the group will pause for Father Kapaun Stations, where they will reflect on different aspects of Kapaun’s life.

Portions of the walk are dedicated to group rosaries and silence, while the rest is a time for discussion and meeting new people.

At night, the pilgrims will camp in tents, with more opportunities to fellowship and learn more about Kapaun.

The first night will be at a Whitewater farm, the next at Peabody’s City Park, and the final night will be at the Kroupa farm northwest of Marion.

Volunteers will transport luggage and camping gear, and meals will be provided.

After the final Mass at Pilsen, a bus will be available to take walkers back to Wichita.
