The Warriors’ baseball team won one and lost one Friday, winning 3-1 on the road in Inman, then losing 12-11.
“I feel as though this season has gone about the way we initially thought,” coach Roger Schroeder said. “We’ve had some struggles early on but have been playing better over the past couple of weeks.”
In the one-point loss, Easton Babcock, Kadon Mercer, Carter Darrow, and Jameson Looper scored two runs each.
“We had a league matchup last Friday and a league matchup this coming Friday, and those are the games we try to prioritize if we can,” Schroeder said.
In between, on Tuesday, Marion played county rival Hillsboro. Hillsboro won 10-9.
“I was really excited for the fact we’re playing a JV/varsity split doubleheader and that everyone on our roster saw the field on Tuesday,” Schroeder said.
On the girls side, Marion’s softball team lost both games Friday against Inman, 12-1 and 24-0.
“We are really proud of the growth we’re seeing from this group,” coach Jayden May said. “The girls have been putting in the work every day, and it’s starting to show in their confidence and overall play.
“Now our focus is on taking that improvement and applying it in games, competing every inning, making the routine plays, and trusting the work we’ve put in.”
Marion girls lost to Hillsboro 29-4.
“Hillsboro is an exciting game, and it’s always fun to play a team where there’s a bit of a rivalry, and I think it brings out a competitive spirit in the girls,” May said.
Both boys and girls will be back at home Friday against Sedgwick.
Hillsboro
The Trojans’ softball team dropped both games Friday at Hoisington, losing 11-4 and 13-5.
“The Trojans have played a pretty tough schedule up to this point,” coach Alyssa Kroeker said. “And it would be easy for a team to feel discouraged, but I feel like we are still working hard and getting better each day.
“There have been at least three games where we have lost games by one run, and some of those were in extra innings.”
When asked about playing against Marion, Kroeker said: “We will continue to play our game, focus on what we can control and limit the errors.”
Hillsboro’s boys’ baseball team split its games Friday against Hoisington, loosing the first 5-3, but winning the second 10-3.
Aiden Hurst, Jaeten Loewen, and Zayne Haslett scored two runs each in the second game. Dalton Philpott pitched for most of the second game.
Both Hillsboro teams will be at home Friday against Nickerson.
