A new set of apartments may — or may not — be built north of the Bown-Corby apartments, 412 N. 2nd St.

The apartment building was sold by former owners Tom and Selene George to Scott Ryden of Independence.

Planning and zoning commission secretary Margo Yates told commission members the new owner wants to add another 12-apartment building but regulations might not allow that.

Bown-Corby has a conditional use permit for medium-density residential property. The property would need 2,000 square feet per family.

Commission chairman Terry Jones said the rule would not permit adding a second building.

Yates said it is up to Ryden to find a solution.
