Body Venture exhibit enhances learning for elementary students

Learning healthy lifestyles is the primary focus of Body Venture, a traveling exhibit that visits elementary schools throughout Kansas.

On September 15, Peabody-Burns Elementary School students from kindergarten through fifth grade got a firsthand look at how to make healthy choices and remain healthy throughout their lives.

“Body Venture is a wonderful way for students to have fun learning about health, nutrition and physical activity,” district curriculum coordinator Kathy Preheim said.

Body Venture, developed by Child Nutrition and Wellness, Kansas State Department of Education, features an 11-stop tour of the body from brain to mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, bones, muscles, and skin.

Students from Peabody-Burns High School presented information in each of the stops in the exhibit.

“What’s great is that the kids are actively involved in learning about good nutrition and making healthy lifestyle choices,” Preheim said.  “We appreciate the district support, PBES Parent Teacher Organization, community members, and high school students who assisted with setting up and tearing down the exhibit and made the Body Venture experience possible for PBES students.”
