Arnold Sommerfeld
A funeral service for Arnold J. Sommerfeld, 87, who died Monday, June 10, 2024, at Hillsboro Community Hospital, was at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa.
Pastor Clark Davis presided. Interment with military rites was in the church cemetery.
Friends called from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.
Arnold was a retired farmer and construction worker. He had been a resident of Hillsboro since July, 2020, moving there from Durham, where he lived since May, 1986.
He was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Canton to Charles John and Elsie (Auernheimer) Sommerfeld.
On July 31, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Keller at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton. They were blessed with two daughters, Angela and Anita.
Arnold was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Hillsboro; his two daughters, Angela Staley (and husband Kevin) of Newton and Anita Rogers of Walton; two brothers, Ernest Sommerfeld of Olathe and Verlin Sommerfeld (and wife Ann) of Durham; a sister, Ethel Kaiser of Lenexa; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials have been established with the church and Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.
