Accident reports released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
Goldenrod Rd. north of 190th Rd.
Roger Ryder, 54, Hillsboro, was driving his 2014 Kia Sedona when a fire started in the vehicle’s engine compartment at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Hillsboro firefighters extinguished the fire, but deputy Mike Ottensmeier reported the Sedona was destroyed.
170th Rd. west of K-15
Rylie May, 16, Hillsboro, was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer owned by Brian May of Hillsboro at 8 a.m. Sept. 29 when the passenger side tires went onto the shoulder. May lost control of the Explorer as it came back on the road, crossing the road and overturning in a ditch. May was not seriously injured and was not taken to a hospital. Undersheriff David Huntley reported inattention as contributing to the accident. The Explorer was reported as destroyed.
K-150 east of Xavier Rd.
What was initially believed to be a possible two-vehicle collision at 8:40 p.m. Oct. 1 turned out instead to be almost simultaneous deer strikes.
Matthew Mullins, 32, Merriam, struck a deer with his eastbound 2010 Honda Civic. Mullins and three passengers were not injured. The Civic was towed.
Casey Koob, 24, Hutchinson, struck a deer with his 2015 Dodge Dart. Koob received minor lacerations from glass from a broken windshield. Two other passengers were uninjured. The Dart was towed.
Turkey Creek Rd. south of US-50
Kenneth Knust, 60, Peabody, struck a deer with his 2002 GMC Sierra at 6:50 a.m. Sept. 29. The truck was driven away.
US-56 at Remington Rd.
Richard Hauschel, 55, Hillsboro, was driving east on US-56 in a 2016 Ford F-150 when the truck was struck in the left rear by a 2005 Dodge Caravan entering the intersection from Remington Rd. at 7:23 a.m. Sept. 29. The collision caused Hauschel to lose control of the truck, which overturned in the north ditch. Hauschel was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital. The driver of the Caravan, Cassandra Thompson, 20, Ramona, was not injured. Deputy Derek Fetrow reported that Thompson’s failure to yield the right of way was a contributing factor, but no citation was issued. Both vehicles were towed.
