According to law enforcement reports released this weekend:

Quail Creek Rd. south of 70th Rd.

Reportedly blinded by the setting sun as she drove over railroad tracks, Taylor Medcalf, 14, rural Peabody, drove a 2004 Infiniti FX owned by Michelle Butts of the same address into a deep ditch at 8 p.m. July 10.

Neither Taylor nor her passenger, Isaiah Andres, also 14, of a different rural Peabody address, was reported injured, but the car had to be towed.

Deputy Travis Wilson’s report states that Taylor had been driving on a farm permit and complied with it terms. For drivers younger than 16 when school is not in session, farm permits allow only “going to or from, or otherwise in connection with, a farm job, employment, or other farm-related work.”

US-56/77 south of 320th Rd.

Pulling back late after trying to pass a semi, a tour bus carrying 23 teenagers and four adults, nearly all of them from Manhattan, hit an oncoming subcompact driven by a Lincolnville woman at 10:59 p.m. July 12.

Deputy Bronson Shipman’s report blamed the accident on improper passing by the tour bus driver, Jon Allen, 74, Abilene, but also stated that the driver of the subcompact, Rebecca Williams, 41, rural Lincolnville, had been drinking. Results of a blood-alcohol test were listed as pending. The semi reportedly did not stop. No charges were listed as having been filed.

Williams, accompanied by children Jessica, 11, and Cory, 13, was the only person in either vehicle listed as being injured. Shipman’s report does not indicate whether she required an ambulance. However, monitored radio transmissions indicate she was taken by ambulance to Newton Medical Center.

Both her 1993 Geo Metro and the tour bus, a 60-passenger 2006 MCI owned by Village Tours and Travel of Wichita, sustained damage to their left front and side.

The bus was carrying 18 girls, mainly ages 13 and 14, and five boys, ages 12 and 13, all from Manhattan. Accompanying them were three women, ages 20 to 27, and one 20-year-old man. Adults were from Manhattan, Prairie Village, and Park City.

US-77 north of 140th Rd.

Peter Erb, 32, Ft. Riley, hit a deer with his 2010 Chevrolet Traverse at 9:36 a.m. Thursday. The sport utility vehicle had to be towed.
