September

Studio 23 Dance classes

Studio 23 Dance will conduct dance classes for ages 2 through teens on Mondays and Thursdays at Hillsboro City Hall. Cost is $25 per class. Call the Hillsboro Recreation office at (620) 947-3490 to find out what day and time is right for your child, and to register. Classes started Monday, but registration is ongoing.

Yoga

Yoga classes are offered through Hillsboro Recreation Commission. Classes are at 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Hillsboro City Hall, and cost $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Art in the Park and Craft Show

About 100 art, craft, and food vendors fill Marion Central Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, creating a perfect atmosphere for relaxed family fun. More information is available at (620) 382-3425 or visit www.marionparksandrec.com.

Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair

Hillsboro’s Arts and Crafts Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in downtown Hillsboro. Many different vendors are lined up for the event, including home décor, food, pet accessories, and artwork.

Free movie at the lake

Free popcorn will be served during a free screening of the 1971 fantasy/comedy film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at dusk Saturday on a large screen at the stage near the swimming area at Marion County Park and Lake.

Old Settlers’ Day

A time to reconnect with old friends and make new connections, and spend time with family, the 105th annual Old Settlers’ Day will be Sept. 23 and 24.

Marion Country Club Golf tees off the celebration at noon Sept. 23.

The annual Main St. parade begins at 11 a.m. Sept. 24, followed by a picnic in Marion Central Park. Games in the park start at 1 p.m. followed by a Marion High School band performance. MHS class reunion recognition is at 2:30 p.m.

Softball tournament

The James Weber Memorial Softball Tournament will be Sept. 23 through Sept. 25 in Tampa. All proceeds from the event go to the scholarship fund in his honor.

Peabody Sunday Cruise

Sept. 25, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., downtown Peabody. Motorcycles, vintage cars, hot rods, and classics. Local shops and restaurant open, food and craft vendors, live music, and church service at 10 a.m. on the street.

Dominoes class

A free class on dominoes basics will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Marion Community Center.

American Legion Auxiliary Family Bingo

Sept 30, 6 to 10 p.m., Legion Hall, 108 N. Main, lots of prizes, cards $5 ($1for children under 12 w/adult),requesting donations of school supplies. Portion of funds raised will go to USD 398 for school supplies all year.

October

Octoberfest

The 30th annual Lincolnville Octoberfest will be all day Oct. 1 in Lincolnville Park.

A morning fun run will be followed by a “Back to the `’80s” parade at 11 a.m.

A beer garden will be in the park, along with multiple arts and crafts and food vendors. A dance will start in the evening. Several musical acts will play.

Chili, cars, and corn hole pitching

Marion County Park and Lake is the place to be Oct. 1 for a chili cook-off, corn hole pitching tournament, and open class car show.

The car show is from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The chili cook off is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and corn hole pitching starts after the conclusion of the chili cook off.

Dominoes tournament

A dominoes tournament will be 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Marion Community Center. Cost is $5 to enter. The tournament will be limited to 48 players.

Story time

A free story time will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the north shelter house in Marion Central Park. All ages are welcome.

Stories are geared toward children ages birth to 6. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Heartsaver training

A Heartsaver course will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at Marion Community Center. The course will include first aid instruction, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) training.

Goessel High celebration

Alumni, friends, and staff past and present are invited to celebrate 90 years of education at Goessel High School on Oct. 7 and 8. A football game and pork meal served through concessions for a tailgate kick off festivities Oct. 7. A firefighters’ fundraiser breakfast, high school tours, scavenger hunt, chili cook-off, golf tournament at Pine Edge Golf Course are Oct. 8 events. 2nd Annual Scarecrow Festival and Chili Cook-off

Judging scarecrows takes place during the day Oct. 8. Prizes of $50, $25, and $10. No charge to enter. Chili cook-off, noon to 3 p.m., no charge to enter, but tasting and judging kits are $6. Downtown Peabody.

Line dancing class

Learn line dances for “Copperhead Road,” “Cupid Shuffle,” “Cha Cha Slide,” and “Boot Scoot Boogie” at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at Marion Community Center.

Learn the basics of car care from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Marion Community Center.

Tabor College homecoming

Tabor College’s homecoming will take place Oct. 21 and 22 on campus and around Hillsboro. Golf tournament registration will begin at 8 a.m. Oct. 21, and a student art and design show will be both days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the library. Theater department will present Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 through Oct. 22 and at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 23. A football game will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 22. Trunk or Treat MES Playground Fundraiser

Community members are invited to spookily decorate their cars for Trunk or Treat from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in Marion Central Park. Kids are encouraged to dress in costumes and collect trunk candy.

The event is a fundraiser for a new playground at Marion Elementary School.

Cost is $10 to enter a car. Winner of the best-decorated trunk contest will receive a commemorative brick that will be laid in a path to the new MES playground.

Free concert

Country blues act The Brody Caster Band will play a free concert from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct 28 in Marion Central Park. Hamburgers and other food will be served as a fundraiser for a roof for the Rock Stage.

Peabody Trunk or Treat Downtown

On Halloween, Peabody Main Street will once again sponsor the annual Trunk or Treat event in downtown Peabody. Walnut St. will be barricaded from 1st to 2nd sts., candy will be handed out by spooks and gremlins from cars parked in front of businesses, 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Trick or Treat Main St., Hillsboro

Hillsboro’s Trick or Treat Main St. will happen on Halloween day from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Children, family, and friends will be able to gather candy among Main St. businesses.
