Marion city voters — 812 strong, militant and at times outspoken in their opinions —went to the polls Tuesday and voted to permit licensing of packaged liquor stores in the city and turned down a proposition to issue bonds in an amount necessary to building a modern swimming pool.

Wingerd’s IGA advertises the following Dollar Day specials: all kinds of ice cream, 4 pints, $1; all kinds of candy bars, box of 24, $1; IGA milk, 9 tall cans, $1; Good Value oleo, 5 pounds, $1; Ideal dog food, 8 cans, $1; and Armour’s dried beef, 3 quarter-pound packages, $1.

Incoming visitors at Marion Airport this week included three pilots from Aero Chemical of Kansas City, who were en route to western Kansas to participate in spraying activities, and William Scully of Scully Estates and his pilot.

Marion Junior High School will present diplomas to 24 students May 19. Class officers are Jackie Lais, president; Michael Brodhead, vice president; Shirley Tiemeier, secretary-treasurer; and Diana Herbert and Nancy Allen, student council representatives.
