Marion and Florence libraries are having their hands full these days trying to keep up with the flood of donated books which are arriving daily from far and near.

Ernie Quigley, proclaimed as one of America’s leading sports experts, will speak this Friday morning at Marion High School as part of the community program service from the University of Kansas. Quigley has lived and breathed athletics for over 50 years and served many of those years as an umpire for the National League.

Juniors of the Evangelical United Brethren Church enjoyed a party Saturday afternoon in the backyard of the Edward Good home. Those there included Clydeen Edmonds, Coleen Allen, Sharon Goentzel, Louise Ford, Marie Blankley, Edward Siebert, Bob Bass, Milford Hett, Keith Conyers, Deran Siebert, and Bill Good.

Well-known former school official at Marion schools, C.E. St. John, superintendent of schools at Arkansas City, will be the main speaker of the day Thursday at the 1951 edition of Old Settlers’ Day.

June Avery was guest of honor at a dinner at her parents’ home Wednesday evening in celebration of her birthday. Guests were Joyce Keazer, Dorothy Adams, Donna Miesse, Nora Zeller, Norma Sly, and Sylvia Otte.

Marion County has a new practicing lawyer. William E. Goering has opened an office in Hillsboro. A native of McPherson, Goering recently graduated from the University of Kansas law school.

The Marion High School dramatics club held its first meeting Friday. Officers elected were: president, Bill McKibbin; vice president, Pat Henry; secretary-treasurer, Mary Ann Skibbe; student council representative, Sarabel Wolf; reporter, Dorothy Sandwell.
