A large crowd of relatives and friends filled Thompson Funeral Home’s parlors Saturday afternoon for a memorial service for Al Holder, Marion’s venerable barber, who died Aug. 10 at his home at nearly 88 years of age.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newton announce this week that they have sold West Side Camp and Grocery to Mr. and Mrs. Jean H. Baczkowski of Wichita.

The Baczkowskis came from Belgium nine years ago. They have four children — three boys, Pierre, 16; Theo, 15; and Jean, 13; and one daughter, Henrietta, 11.

A total of 126 relatives and two guests attended the 48th annual Hett reunion Aug. 13 in Central Park.

Wilbur Hett was elected president; Homer Hett, vice president; Mrs. Earl Hett, secretary; and Gertrude Hett, treasurer.

Sign painter Ted Cash was busy this week changing “Marion School District 1” into “Marion Unified School District 408” on school buses.

Fifteen talented and attractive girls will compete in the swimsuit and talent judging competition for Marion County Fair queen. Among them are Mary Korari, Susan Kay Lentz, Judy Pankratz, and Roxanne Zerger of Marion.

Marion area readers of Sears and Roebuck and Montgomery Ward catalogs, McCall’s Needlecraft publications, and other similar publications soon will be seeing a familiar face and figure on their fashion pages.

LaVonda Hett, Marion High graduate of this spring, will be one of the featured models for photos in the catalogs for next spring and summer.
