Marion’s new water plant could not have been built at a better time. Even though the weatherman may have recorded 1966 as a drought year, townspeople never suffered from a lack of water.

Trapping, a one-time popular winter activity among the young and hardy in this area, has all but died out. With at least one exception, that is.

Dale Snelling, energetic superintendent at the Marion County Park and Lake, is pictured on the front page as he shows his young son, Dannie, and a RECORD reporter the big beaver and four smaller ones he trapped on the Cottonwood River northwest of Florence.

The season isn’t very old yet this year, and Dale already has 47 muskrat pelts stretched and drying in a shed at the lake.

Perfect attendance awards for 1966 were announced at Monday’s meeting of the Kiwanis Club. Men with perfect attendance include Ed Colburn, Conrad Steinel, Boyce Baumgardner, Matthew Classen, LeRoy Riggs, William Finke, Ollie Wight, Roger Hannaford, Lynn Christensen, Les Powell, Alex Case Jr., Rosse B. Case, Edmund Sandwell, and Homer Stenzel.

Ranson & Co., Inc. of Wichita is offering 5¼ percent tax-free interest on the $225,000 industrial revenue bonds for the skilled nursing home in Marion.

The Marion High School “Queen of Courts” for 1967 will be crowned Friday night at the Marion vs. Remington homecoming game.

The basketball squad has chosen five senior girls to be nominated for the honor instead of three. Those girls are Susan Lentz, Karen Siebert, Janet Varenhorst, Cindy Ingram, and Roxanna Zerger.

Flower and crown bearers will be Lisa Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Debbie Henry, Dannie Weinmann, Jimmie Dreier, Jeanine Dreier, and Jeff Harris.
