Dave Hanson, Old Settlers’ Day parade chairman, says that so far 21 floats have registered for the parade on Saturday. Conrad Steinel, band chairman, reports that 12 bands will be in the parade. This includes the Rube Band and a western band. It looks like another big parade, with many unusual features.

Marion National Bank has a fine new “time and temperature” rotating clock on the front of their remodeled building. They also have a new burglar alarm. When the alarm got a short and sounded off early Monday morning, many town wags pestered the bank unmercifully telling them that their alarm clock had gone off.

Earl Winter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Winter, and Bob Herron, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laudner, met by chance at Guantanamo, Cuba, recently. Both are serving in the U.S. Navy.

Letters of commendation honoring high performance on the 1966 National Merit Scholarship qualifying test have been awarded to four Marion High School students. Those commended were Steve Heinz, Linda Loney, Norman Mueller, and Cathy Palmer.

Wayne Hett, Marion, missed $200 this week at the Marion Cash Days drawing. Margaret Hett, Marion, missed $15; Mrs. Pete Pankratz, Marion, received $5; Alice McKibbin, Marion, received $15; and Pete Rudolph, Marion, missed $10

J.D. “Jim” Ferrell will be the Old Settlers’ Day “Parade Marshal” Saturday, leading the parade on one of his famed paint stallions, “Country Squire.” Jim, who operates a large ranch in the northeast corner of the county, breeds and raises paint and quarter horses.
