“Kansas — Land of Adventure” is the theme for the 70th annual Marion Old Settlers’ Day scheduled for Sept. 26. Larry Reiswig, general chairman of the event, said committees have been formed among members of Marion Kiwanis to organize games, entertainment, and the traditional parade down Main Street.

Marion County 4-H members thanked local businessmen for their support throughout the year at a picnic Tuesday night. About 150 persons were treated to two long tables covered with food and an evening of entertainment.

Mary Lou Stika, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Stika of Pilsen and a graduate of the language department at the University of Kansas, has been invited to teach a credit course in Elementary Czech (Bohemian) at the university. She will also teach a course in Introduction to Slavic Language (Czech) at the Regents Center in Kansas City.

The 51st annual Marion County Fair at Hillsboro will begin at 6:30 p.m. August 17 with a parade, followed at 8 p.m. by a junior rodeo on the Fairgrounds. There will be a barbecue and entertainment by John Biggs at the grandstand Tuesday evening, a mini-rod pull Wednesday, and will conclude Thursday night with the demolition derby.
