The fourth annual July Jamboree, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday with the opening of the street carnival. Booths and games will line Main Street. Activities will include the traditional clown scramble and parade, a Big Wheels race down Main St., and pet turtle scramble will conclude with a balloon stomping contest.

Marion County 4-H’ers left for Montana early Monday morning. The 10-day trip is part of an exchange program with Montana 4-H’ers. The Marion crew will be staying with 4-H families in Montana during the week.

Three-year-old Charlie Maggard, son of Mr. and Ms. Dennis Maggard, is pictured on the front page as he zooms down the slide at Marion Central Park Monday afternoon. Despite the hot weather, Charlie and Jenny Maggard were spending the afternoon with their grandmother, Mrs. Charles Maggard, playing in the park.

Joella Smith and Melissa Robinson, both seniors at Marion High School will compete July 27 in the Tri-County Junior Miss pageant in Herington. Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Smith of Marion. Robinson is the daughter of Elora Robinson of Marion.

Mary Holub, 1981 Centre High School graduate, was recipient of the annual Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW’s scholarship for Marymount College. Presentation of the $350 scholarship occurred Friday night during halftime at the group’s weekly bingo session.

Pictured is Louise Whiteman as she helps her 8-month-old son Justin stay afloat at Marion Municipal Pool. The couple is enrolled in a “Moms and Tots” swimming class, designed to instruct mothers in teaching their children how to swim.
