Sunflower Building Inc. of Manhattan was low bidder May 1 on a Marion County Courthouse improvement project. Total bid of $280,300 will include an elevator, general accessibility improvements, a new electrical system, and construction and renovation in the courtroom.

A variety of classic cars, from fully restored to works in progress, were on display Saturday in Central Park during the annual Marion Lions Club car show.

A 1929 caboose is the latest addition to the Florence Historical Society’s holding. It will be in place this summer at the Harvey House Museum in Florence. The caboose was purchased from John Younkman of Newton, a former resident of Florence.

Marion native Eric Meyer has been selected as a speaker and a panelist at NetMedia 96, the world Internet conference to July 4 and 5 at City University in London, England. His topic will be online newspapers.

“Beary Special Babies” born during April at St. Luke Hospital include Kyle Andrew Palic, born April 7; Braden Curtis Pagenkopf, April 25; Seth Michael Crawford, April 29; Jared Daniel Hague, April 30; and Devan Michael Carr, April 30.

Nine-year-old Torey Hett of Marion participated over the weekend in the Mid-America Games for the Disabled at Kansas City and brought home first place ribbons in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, and slalom wheelchair races.

Cottonwood Valley Bank officers Kelly Linnens and Barry Linnens are pictured as they receive a welcome plaque from Florence Chamber of Commerce. The Linnenses own the former Florence State Bank and other branches of Cottonwood Valley banks at Burns, Cedar Point, and Strong City.
