Marion County Conservation District is celebrating 50 years of service to farmers and landowners of Marion County. Established in 1945, the district has provided cost-share programs in constructing waterways and terraces, seeding marginal cropland back to grass, constructing ponds, and planting windbreaks.

Marion will be the home of a talented semi-pro baseball team this summer. Tony Woodall, talented pitcher and manager of the Lindsborg Black Sox, told Marion City Commission the team will move its franchise from Lindsborg to Marion this year.

Lisa Donahue, Ann Bryant, Nova Bruner, and Cathy Cleeton are pictured as they prepared homemade sack lunches at Marion Manor. The lunches were provided as fundraisers for the American Heart Association during Home with a Heart Week.

On With the Show, a vocal quartet of professional musicians and faculty from several Kansas colleges will perform March 5 at Tabor College. Members of the quartet are Jonah Kliewer, Janet Ediger, Vada Snider, Ron Garber, and Ken Rodgers.

A new restaurant called “Aunt Matilda’s Pantry” has opened at 1204 E. Main, Marion. Owners of the business are Brian and Madonna Hedgecock, who moved to Marion in September.

Marion High School junior Lisa Zogelman has been selected as student of the month by the Marion High School faculty. She is the daughter of Pat and Mary Zogelman of Florence. Lisa plans to attend college and major in computer science or business administration.

First place in the annual Pinewood Derby of Cub Pack 106 held Friday at the Tampa Community Center was Webelo Travis Burns. Second went to Marty Adam, third to Jeremy Kristek, and fourth to Anthony Clegg. Joseph Forsberg received the award for “best of show.”
